Holiday hair – mastering the French plait

So, if you’re anything like me you rock up on holiday with every hair product under the sun knowing dam well you’re not going to use them. Because, let’s face it – one day at the beach and your hair is totally screwed.

Oh hey there, don’t mind me. I’m just wearing a top knot for the 5th day in a row because my hair is a joke!

Whether you have thick hair or long hair, thin hair or mid-length. These tips are a sure fire way to avoid that annoying drippy feeling you get fresh out of the sea and the unimaginable knots that go with it. Kiss goodbye to your tangle teaser because with these tips you’re not going to need it.

First things first – French plaits on holiday are your saving grace. If you don’t know how to do them, learn. Don’t worry, it’s really easy and you can learn really quick.

A French plait or braid is basically a normal plait, but every time you go to fold a section of hair over, you simply grab a bit of hair to join it. Start small and then slowly build it up.

Once you’ve mastered the braid – the world is your oyster. Here are some of my favourites.

The simple braid

Literally what it says on the tin.

Pig tails

Braided pig tails look really cute and they’re very on trend.
Simple braid wrapped

Literally do a French plait and then wrap it either around or under and pin it up.

Pig tails wrapped

Cross them over and pin them up on the back of your head… Again easy!

The great thing about all of the above is that they keep your hair out of the way and it’s really comfy. Plus when you take them out you look like a mermaid and you’re hair is basically ready for your night out – bonus!

Some French plait tips:

– dirty hair works best. I did the above with clean hair which is why the pigtails look a bit crap and floppy

– I did mine in a rush and you can tell. Take time to make sure your clips aren’t showing and that you divide your hair properly

– Use bobbles the same shade as your hair unless you’re looking to make a statement

– Before taking your plaits out for the evening spay on some hair spray and let it dry, that way your waves will hold
